What Are Binary Milestones?
Binary milestones have to do with milestone events that occur at the conclusion of key project process steps. "Milestones", the more common form of event conclusion, can sometimes cause problems in project management if completeness is either unclear or allows partial completion. In the case of the binary milestone, the project team members agree up-front to the precise definition of certain critical key milestone events.

These agreed-upon critical key milestone events are then created as binary milestones whereby they can exist only in one of two states - completed or not completed. Having team members agree up-front to the conditions upon which binary milestones can be completed is central to quality assurance, on time delivery, and project success.
